VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., Jan. 27, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Hometown hero David Wright, captain of the New York Mets, hosted the seventh annual Vegas-style charity event for Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters on Friday, January 20, at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.
The sold-out evening included a poker tournament and casino games, including craps, roulette, blackjack and virtual horse racing with chances to win great prizes. Guests enjoyed cocktails, heavy hors d'oeuvres, a photo booth, dancing and bidding on live and silent auction items. Nearly 400 supporters attended the event, which raised a record $205,000 for CHKD, with ABS Technology as the title sponsor. An avid supporter of CHKD for many years, this is the seventh Vegas Night hosted by Wright. This year's event brought the seven-year cumulative total to more than $1.1 million raised to provide critical support for patient care at CHKD. CHKD is the only freestanding children's hospital in Virginia and serves the medical and surgical needs of children throughout greater Hampton Roads, the Eastern Shore of Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. The not-for-profit CHKD Health System operates primary care pediatric practices, surgical practices, multi-service health centers, urgent care centers and satellite offices throughout its service region.
